When buying Magic: The Gathering singles, condition matters. We grade every card during our uploading and storage process using the condition standards below, helping you know what to expect before you order.
Near Mint cards show little to no visible wear. Very small imperfections from printing, handling or storage may occasionally be present, but the card should appear clean and well cared for overall. There should be no significant edge wear, surface damage, creasing or other obvious signs of play.
Lightly Played cards may show a small amount of visible wear, such as minor edge whitening, light surface marks or small scratches. Corners may show slight wear, but the card should remain in very good overall condition without major defects.
Moderately Played cards show clear signs of handling or gameplay. This may include noticeable edge wear, whitening, surface scratches, corner wear, dents or slight bends. The card remains usable, but the wear will be clearly visible when inspected.
Heavily Played cards show significant and obvious wear. This may include heavy edge or corner wear, deep scratches, surface marks, discoloration, dirt, dents or more noticeable bends. These cards are generally best suited to players who prioritise playability and price over appearance.
Each card is graded during our uploading and storage process. Once graded and stored, its condition should remain the same until it is picked and packed for an order.
We look at factors including edge wear, whitening, corners, surface marks, scratches, dents and other signs of handling or play.
We take care to grade cards as consistently as possible, but condition grading can involve a degree of judgement and occasional human error can occur.
Foil and etched cards are assessed using the same general condition standards as non-foil cards, while also taking into account finish-specific issues such as surface scratching, clouding and visible wear to the foil layer.
Foil cards can also naturally develop some curvature over time. Minor curvature alone does not necessarily determine the overall condition grade, although more significant issues will be taken into account.
Mr Card Singles does not sell cards that we consider damaged.
Cards with damage beyond our Heavily Played condition standard are removed from our saleable inventory rather than being listed on the website.
Some of these cards may still be perfectly usable and may have value to players, so we occasionally give damaged cards away for free at events rather than selling them.
Trading card grading is subjective to a degree. Two people may assess very small imperfections slightly differently, particularly between neighbouring grades such as Near Mint and Lightly Played.
Our aim is to grade consistently and fairly so that the condition shown on the website accurately represents the card you receive.
